For (those afraid of) the Dark

Updated: Aug 5, 2018

By Emma Chaffee

For the children, huddled under blankets, ears covered

For the corner of the room with the chair, with just the chair

For the doorway’s empty threshold

For the closet’s lonely clothes

For the bed’s idle belly

Night is the same as day, minus light

This is where the trouble lies, for the one with covered eyes, for hands make darkness darker:

The closet is howling and the corner is staring and the bed’s belly is kicking

Though if light was shown it would be known how

simply

the doorway stands
